Central Sports to open fitness academy
Central Fitness
Monday 22nd December '08
Since the closure of the YMCA Sport and Fitness Club in September, Central Sports have negotiated with St Helens YMCA to take the club over. Central Sports is parent company to Central Fitness and Central Skills and is one of the UK's largest training providers to the active leisure sector providing a range of training programmes to meet a wide range of needs; from training to help young adults gain initial employment, qualifications to help those already in employment to develop and progress their careers, and vocational short courses for those individuals looking for a career change.
Building upon existing links with schools and colleges in the North West Central Sports is set to turn the venue into an innovative centre for work based training. The club will receive significant investment and re-open as both a squash club and fitness centre with one fundamental difference - the club will be a working project to develop young people for a career in Sport. Through programmes such as the Young Apprenticeship (14-16), Entry to Employment, Programme Led Apprenticeships and Apprenticeships, several young people will gain valuable work experience and in turn promote sport and fitness in the local community. Plans are afoot for a new gym with low cost memberships, improved squash courts, cafe area and training areas. Central Sports aim to work closely with St Helens YMCA and the college to promote Squash, Fitness and Training in the local area for all ages. The centre will be branded Central Fitness and re launched in March 2009.
