Construction

The construction industry offers a wide variety of different qualifications and routes for developing the skills and competence that employers require. At Central Skills we offer a range of entry level and non-accredited short courses to provide you with an introduction to the building and construction industry. Based at our purpose built Miry Lane site, we provide the following courses:

CAA Certificate in Building Craft Occupations (Level 1)

As a vocational taster qualification, the Certificate in Building and Craft Occupations assists candidates with progression decisions about which occupation they prefer. It provides individuals with some experience in their chosen occupation and hence a good start to their occupation specific training. The course covers the following aspects of construction:

  • Handle and Store Materials and Components
  • Remove and Replace Fittings and Fixtures
  • Cut, Lay and Fix Components
  • Mix Materials
  • Apply Finishing Materials
  • Setting Out

Construction Skills Certification Scheme

The Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) was set up to help the construction industry to improve quality and reduce accidents. The development of the CSCS card has helped enormously with this, and is increasingly demanded as proof of occupational competence by contractors, public and private clients and others.

As an experienced training centre we can provide you with necessary knowledge, training and assessment required to gain this essential accreditation, enabling you to work on building and construction sites legally.

Non Accredited Short Courses

We can provide a range of vocationally related short courses in aspects of building and construction that provide you with the opportunity to gain basic skills in a number of areas and enable you to make decisions about which specific trade you would like to pursue. The range of non accredited short courses available includes:

  • Bricklaying
  • Joinery
  • Plastering
  • Painting & Decorating
