NVQ in Food Preparation & Cooking (Level 1)

This level 1 NVQ in Food Preparation & Cooking provides you with the knowledge and practical skills you will need to work successfully across all areas of the food service industry. The course covers the following aspects associated with catering:

  • Safety, hygiene and security in the workplace
  • Effective teamwork
  • Food storage
  • Preparing and cooking vegetables, meat, and poultry

Basic Food Hygiene Certificate

Food poisoning is normally caused by negligence or ignorance, with more than 79,000 cases of food poisoning reported last year. Regulations require that anyone involved in food handling and preparation must be appropriately trained in food safety. The Basic Food Hygiene certificate provides you with this training, covering the following areas:

  • The Three Main Types of Food Safety Hazard and their Sources
  • Methods of Control
  • Correct Temperatures Needed for Storage and Food Handling Activities
  • Common Food Pests
  • Pest Control
  • Principles of Cleaning and Disinfection
