What is an apprenticeship?
Apprenticeships are high quality work-based training programmes for those who want to develop future career prospects. Apprentices learn through a combination of on the job and off the job learning. On the job they work alongside experienced staff, whilst off the job they attend training to work towards nationally recognised qualifications.
Apprenticeships are becoming more and more popular with both employers and employees, and there are already 240,000 apprentices in England alone working towards one of over 180 different apprenticeships on offer. There are currently two levels of apprenticeship:
Apprenticeship
Apprentices work towards a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) at Level 2, key skills qualifications and in most cases a relevant technical certificate.
Advanced Apprenticeship:
Advanced apprentices work towards a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) at Level 3, key skills qualifications and in most cases a relevant technical certificate.
All our courses are offered either as part of an Apprenticeship (level 2) or Advanced Apprenticeship (level 3) framework, providing a mode of delivery that is flexible to meet the needs of both the individual and employer. All our apprenticeship routes include the following mandatory elements:
Key Skills
Often referred to as ‘skills for life’, key skills are an important part of all our learning programmes, and are a mandatory requirement if you have not achieved the necessary GCSE grades at ‘C’ or above within the last 3 years. Key skills cover two main areas, communication and application of number. All learners are assessed initially using an online assessment to determine the level of support that is required.
Nationally Vocational Qualification (NVQ)
NVQs are based on the national occupational standards that describe the level of performance expected of anyone working in the industry or sector that the NVQ covers. All NVQs are competence based and are linked to the individual’s ability to competently perform a range of tasks in the workplace.
Learners plan a programme of development with their assessor and compile a portfolio of evidence to prove they are knowledgeable and competent in their work role. The evidence produced for the portfolio can include; observation of performance, written assignments and case studies, professional discussion, questioning, witness testimony, and accreditation of prior learning.
Technical Certificate in Industry and Organisational Awareness
The technical certificate must be achieved over the duration of the apprenticeship. The technical certificate provides you with the underpinning knowledge for a successful career within the active leisure industry, and can be achieved at level 2 and level 3 depending on your apprenticeship route.
Industry Qualifications
Industry qualifications provide you with an enhanced package of qualifications that cover many of the occupational standards required for the NVQ. Often referred to as Vocationally Related Qualifications (VRQs), industry qualifications are stand alone modules that are nationally and in some cases internationally recognised within their relevant sector.
Completion of the industry qualifications is done via a mix of home study and face to face delivery, and may require you to be released from work to attend training. Central Sports offers a wide range of industry qualifications for you to choose from, these include...
